ShopPings is JLL's newest signature program concepted and designed by The Dealey Group and Pocketstop that helps drive traffic and sales to retailers by using centers' WiFi and mobile technology as a way to message shoppers.
How it works:
A shopper enters the mall and connects to WiFi
To connect, they must enter their mobile number
They receive a ShopPing (text message) from the mall with a retailer sale, event info, etc. and are also connected to the internet
The results have been staggering with centers averaging 833 subscribers per month. The database is 157,703 across 15 centers and more than 290,450 ShopPings (text messages) were sent out in 2016. Even better, there's only a 2% opt-out rate and a 97% open rate of each ShopPing (text message) sent!
Retailers quickly noticed the impact of the program and started reaching out to mall management to collaborate on unique offers. ShopPings increased retailers' sales at dozens of centers, including a 33% year over year increase for a national apparel retailer.
The ShopPings program has been as successful as it is simple to execute, and utilized only 3.08% of centers' total marketing budgets in 2016. As a result, it is now fully integrated into every marketing program that JLL runs – allowing them to deliver on the proximity marketing promise to all of their clients.
Additionally, this program offers very interesting data including how often the shopper visits the mall, average duration of each visit, and frequented websites during their property visit (e.g., Amazon, Gap, etc.). So who, knows – the next time you go shopping, you might just get pinged!
